Mortimer leads England to victory

MOST READ

Based upon his sizzling track performances, Tom Mortimer was selected to lead the England 5k road team in Cardiff, writes Chris Brown.

Mortimer put in a dominant performance to win the Home Counties International for England and lead England to the team victory.

A slow course did not stop Mortimer from surprising many with a fast time, breaking clear at 3k to take the victory and in doing so he broke both the course record and the Welsh all-comers record with a time of 13 minutes, 37 seconds.

Mortimer is now fourth fastest in Europe, in year of new records, behind the new France and European record holder, the new US-based British record holder, and the new German record holder.

Mortimer’s next race at the GB team world 5k road trials on the 8th September in Newcastle. With only two GB places available, there will be strong competition.
