Kidlington Reserves 1 Shortwood 3 – Unisport Hellenic League Division 1

By Jim Cunneen

New Shortwood United boss Marcus Foxwell posted his first victory as his side returned to winning ways at Kidlington Reserves.

Foxwell handed a debut to Harry Duncan and the former Fairford man caught the eye with a goal on his debut.

Wood took the lead after 14 minutes. Fin Byrnes played a superb through ball to Ryan Dobbins who squared the ball to Duncan who fired home.

Kidlington levelled after 32 minutes with an excellent team goal Briggs finishing off an excellent move.  Wood then dominated the rest of the half with Dobbins flashing a header wide, Dan Gayner coming close and Dobbins having an effort blocked.

Within a minute of the restart Dobbins was tripped in the box and Dan Gayner fired the penalty into the top corner.

Wood made the game safe. Byrnes was again the provider whipping in a free-kick which Tryner volleyed home at the far post.

Molyneux back healed a low Byrnes corner inches wide and again Barnett save Kidlington when he blocked a Dan Gayner effort with his feet.

Alex Gayner came on and was immediately tripped but this time the referee saw no foul.

Kidlington kept pushing and Basham blazed over from close range. In the last minute Alex Gayner raced through and was unlucky to see his strong shot across goal rebound off the foot of the far post and away.

Shortwood: Thomas, Sabally, Royer, Byrnes, Tryner, Smith, Molyneux (Price 82), Kent, Dobbins (Bowes 72), Duncan (Gayner A 63), Gayner D.
