Summer is on the way as dancers welcome the solstice sunrise

Classical ballet dancers greeted the winter solstice sunrise on Selsley Common this morning.

The official time of the sunrise was 8.13am, though thick cloud denied even the faintest glimpse of pink or orange in the sky.

Sofia, Libby, Daisy, and Lexie from  Mandy Godding’s Theatre Arts, rose early in the depth of winter to celebrate the beginning of the slow lengthening of daylight hours.

The common escarpment is the site of Toots Long Barrow, a scheduled Neolithic monument.
