December saw a great diverse culmination of the year with two great events for the primary schools of Stroud.
The events showed the wide spectrum of activities available for young people, with Sportability providing an opportunity for children to participate in developmental activities in the form of a circuit, helping their accuracy in aiming for targets, team building, throwing, table cricket, speed in collection in the parachute, sliding the new age kurling stones towards targets and many more disciplines. This event was attended by Rodborough, Gastrells and Minchinhampton Schools who all recorded scores into the 1000’s.!
With the Commonwealth Games being held in Birmingham this year the debating competition used the event as a topic to debate, with the main case being what the legacy of the games should be once completed.
Minchinhampton, Thrupp and Rodborough put their cases across with great content and delivery. The economic benefit, the ecological legacy and the increase in physical activity were the debatable legacies and after deliberation between the judges from Archway School Sixth Form it was decided that Thrupp Primary would take the gold medal for the increased physical activity legacy debate with Minchinhampton in second and Rodborough in third. Schools were commended for their research into their respective debating approaches and the confidence with how they delivered and responded to their debate.
Both events were brilliantly supported by students from Archway School Sixth Form and hosted by Wycliffe College and Museum in the Park respectively.
