Cllr Stella Parkes, Stroud Mayor, made the proclamation of the new King from the steps of Stroud Subscription Rooms this afternoon.

This proclamation follows national and county proclamations earlier in the day.

Dozens of visitors listened to the proclamation, which ended with a rendition of ‘three cheers for the King’. Following Royal protocol, the Union flag on the Sub Rooms balcony was raised to full mast.

The ceremony does not create a new King but is an announcement of the accession which took place immediately on the death of HM Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday, September 8.
