David Drew is back in politics after Labour took the Stroud Central seat from the Greens.

The former Labour MP beat Green Molly Scott Cato at the Gloucestershire County Council elections, marking a sensational return to the political arena after losing his seat at Westminster to Siobhan Baillie in December 2019.

The seat has been held by the Greens for the last 12 years, with Cllr Eva Ward stepping down and Molly Scott Cato standing in her place. The former MEP previously stood as MP for Stroud in the 2019 general election, finishing in third place behind Siobhan Baillie and David Drew.

Meanwhile, Conservative Nick Housden has gained Stonehouse and the Tories retain Bisley and Painswick. Elsewhere, Minchinhampton remains Green, Rodborough stays Labour as does Nailsworth.
