On a busy January transfer window shopping day, Forest Green have completed their third capture of the day.

Rovers have secured the services of goalkeeper Tommy Simkin on loan from Stoke City until the end of the season.

Simkin,19, impressed on loan at Solihull Moors during the first half of the season, which led to him being recalled by parent club Stoke in November. He made his Championship debut in December, where he was the Potters’ Player of the Match in a 1-0 defeat against Sheffield Wednesday.

Simkin penned a new long-term contract with Stoke back in the summer and has recently featured in England U20s squads.

After joining Rovers, Simkin said: “I’m delighted to be here. As soon as I found out about the interest, it was a no brainer. I can’t wait wait to get going.

“I’m a passionate player. I want to win. My distribution is one of my strengths, I’m confident with the ball at my feet.”

Head Coach, Troy Deeney, added: “Tommy is the type of profile that only comes up once every five or six years. I’ve known about him since August when he was playing at Solihull Moors and they were consistently in the top four of the National League when he was starting every game for them.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for us to have a young player who is ready to kick on to the next stage of his career.”
