Dear Editor,
Chalford Sports & Social club honoured the 80th anniversary of D-Day with a free community event.
The location was perfect with its large hall set up with WWII displays from Chalford Hill school, including baby gas marks, military uniforms. The D-Day commemorations showed on the TV screens. Tables set up in Union Jack table cloths.
Outside, were two marquees and more seating. Tops & Bottoms performed singalong wartime songs, Chalford Hill Band entertained us in style and then Chair Cllr Emma Trinder read the International tribute and lit the Beacon of Peace.

A highlight of the evening saw Renee,92, recall her very own D-Day story from watching the British troops in Southampton and many more emotional stories.
