A resident in Wotton-under-Edge has celebrated her 100th birthday with a card from the King and Queen.
On February 23, Mollie Tucker celebrated her 100th birthday. She spent the day celebrating with a party for family, friends and fellow residents at SDC’s Dryleaze House Independent Living scheme in Wotton-under-Edge, where she has lived for more than 10 years.
She opened a card and read out the message from their Majesties The King and Queen, and remarked that she’d had a “wonderful” party, thanking everyone for coming and her family for organising it.
Independent Living service delivery manager Lynne (pictured) visited Mollie with a bouquet of flowers and card with birthday wishes from everyone at SDC.
Every year, thousands of royal greeting cards are sent out to people across the UK.
During her reign, Queen Elizabeth II sent approximately 1.3 million cards to celebrate the birthdays and anniversaries of people around the nation and also the Realms and Overseas Territories. The tradition, started during the late Queen’s father, King George V’s reign, is now in the hands of King Charles III and his Queen Consort, Camilla.
A little known fact is that you actually have to apply for these greetings. You can apply via the Royal Family website for any form of greeting, be it a 100th birthday or one of the eligible wedding anniversaries.
