Caught on camera: largest Severn Bore of the year

Drone operator Mark Watkins caught the largest Severn Bore of the year on camera this morning.

He filmed the event on a Mavic Mini 3 Pro drone and caught surfers and paragliders making the most of the spectacular event.

“It was absolutely packed at Epney and a stunning morning. It was amazing to witness the bore approaching from Framilode and appear around the corner, as the surfers bobbed about mid river in anticipation. You could hear the rush of the four star bore approaching,” said Mark.

The bore is a natural occurrence that takes place when the incoming tide is funnelled into a narrow part of the river. This process forces a surge of water upstream, creating a series of rolling waves that can travel at impressive speeds ranging from 8 to 13 mph (13 to 21 km/h).
