What’s on in Stroud this week: 7 – 13 April
The season continues to dazzle up and down the Five Valleys, with plenty of sunshine and spring flowers, and nice light evenings to enjoy.
It’s also a great season for Stroud culture, with music, film, community events and the launch of Stroud District Council’s Cultural Strategy all filling up the calendar this week. Plus Easter trails in Chalford and Painswick and eco printing at the Museum in the Park.

Regular and one off events
- See Damn Tall Buildings at the Albert – Mon 7 Apr, 7pm
Brooklyn-based folk-bluegrass trio Damn Tall Buildings take to the stage at the Albert, bringing their soulful melodies and intricate instrumentals to the people of Rodborough. Booking recommended.
- See Paddington in Peru at Wick Flix – Fri 11 Apr, 7:45pm
This month’s iteration of the Painswick Centre’s charming community cinema film sees the third installment in the Paddington film series shown on the big screen. Entry is great value at £10, especially as it includes a drink from the bar.
- Explore the role of culture at the Brunel Goods Shed – Fri 11 Apr, 10am – 4:30pm
This one day symposium at the Brunel Goods Shed launches Stroud District Council’s Cultural Strategy and invites participants to collectively investigate the role that art, creativity and culture can play in bringing about real and meaningful change to communities across the Stroud District.
- Watch the Orb at the Sub Rooms – Sat 12 Apr, 8pm
Thirty-five years since the Orb’s beginnings as ambient and dub DJs in London, founder Alex Paterson takes to the stage at the Sub Rooms, for what promises to be a nostalgic night of electronic music, as part of the tour for their latest compilation, Orboretum: The Orb Collection.
- Take the Chalford Easter Hunt Trail – Sun 13 Apr, 10am – 4pm
Join the easter hunt trail around Chalford. Collect your map to start your trail from Chalford Sports and Social Club, complete the hunt then return to the club for your prize, and tea and cake.
- Learn eco printing with Ruth Illingworth – Sun 13 Apr, 1:30pm
Artist and gardener Ruth Illingworth leads an introduction to eco printing at the Museum in the Park. The workshop will make use of flowers from the Museum’s Walled Garden and leaves from Stratford Park to create an A4 ecoprint.

- Hunt for dragon eggs at Painswick Rococo Garden – Sat 12 Apr – Sun 27 Apr
The best rococo garden in the whole of Painswick throws an enchanted egg hunt for the Easter holidays. We are promised the chance to support the Cotswold Dragon Conservation Society in their search for dragon eggs, including stepping into a Museum of Dragon Artefacts and discovering the wonderful world of dragonology.
