Dursley Town have appointed Ben Deakin as manager.

The former Brimscombe player was assistant to departing manager Karl Nash at the Gloucestershire Northern Senior League side last season.

On stepping up to his new role, Deakin,31, told Stroud Times: “I’m Very happy to have been given the job by the club, immediately excited and looking forward to the new season.

“I will definitely enjoy the off season away from football as it’s been needed.

“However the hard work starts now for myself in terms of planning a pre-season schedule, chatting to new and existing players and seeing what I can put together going forward.

Deakin is now assembling his backroom staff, but has officially named his assistant: “I haven’t got an assistant in yet, but I have spoken to two people already who I think could be very good to have involved.”

A Dursley Town spokesperson said: “Dursley Town is delighted to announce the appointment of Ben Deakin as our new First Team Manager.

“Ben played a key role in supporting Karl Nash last season and we’re exited to see that continuity carry forward to both the club and the players. We’re confident Ben will bring passion, leadership and fresh energy to the role.

“We hope all the supporters will join us in getting behind Ben as he begins this next chapter with Dursley Town AFC.

The statement also heaped praise on departing manager Karl Nash, who helped guide the club to a third-place finish in the Gloucestershire Northern Senior League Division One last season.

“We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Karl Nash for his incredible commitment and leadership over the past seven years. He’s been an outstanding custodian of the club, and we deeply grateful for everything he has done.

“Here’s to the future – up the Town.”
