A shocked car mechanic discovered a five-week-old kitten from inside the engine of a Volkswagen car.

The mechanic from Cirencester first thought the stray kitten was a hedgehog.

Dehydrated and hungry, the intrepid kitten was rescued just in time, unfortunately 48 hours later another identical kitten was found in the same area, sadly she was not so lucky and didn’t make it.

Bela 4 | Kitten Bela discovered in car engine - now needs her forever home

This fortunate feline, now named Bela, is under the care of Stroud Cat’s Protection’s fostering team and is now responding to strokes and cuddles as well as beginning to explore her surroundings and play.

Bela is very thin, and her fur a little matted, but she is making up for lost time and is eating well and is enjoying love and affection. As soon as you stroke or play with her, her loud purr starts up and just doesn’t stop. She is even enjoying being brushed and rolls over to expose her tummy. She seems to know how fortunate she has been.

Bela is one of the lucky ones, and when she is fully fit and ready Stroud Cats Protection will be looking to re-home her.Bela is just one of 12 kittens and 23 cats currently in the care of the Stroud Branch.
