Happy Friday: six-month road closure misery is finally over

A six-month road closure nightmare is finally over.

This afternoon, Friday, saw delighted motorists free to use Rushmire Hill near Wotton-under-Edge, for the first time since January, following a multi-million-pound project to rectify long term subsidence.

The route connects Wotton with Nailsworth, Stroud, and Tetbury.

During the closure, drivers had to follow a 10-mile diversion through Dursley on the A4135 and then onto the B4060.

A delighted Stroud Times reader said: “This is amazing news and to be able to use the B4058 to reach Wotton again without a diversion to Dursley is simply wonderful and saves so much time and petrol.”

Gloucestershire County Council said the scheme, estimated to cost £2.5 million, was necessary to protect the road for the future.
