A group of brave staff and parents from King’s Stanley Primary School are preparing to take on a skydive to raise money to save their outdoor play space.
Headteacher Mr Derk van den Broek, teacher Mrs Bainbridge and six parents will leap from an aircraft at 13500 feet at the end of September in a bid to raise £10000 for the school.
Mr van den Broek said: “School budgets are tight everywhere. We’ve had to manage a deficit budget for the past two years and we’re only just managing to maintain staffing levels let alone replace outdoor equipment. When the idea of a skydive came up it felt a bit extreme but the energy and positivity from the parents has been incredible. It definitely feels like the right thing to do.”
The idea came from one of the parents who felt strongly that the children shouldn’t miss out after the school explained there was no funding available to replace large parts of the outdoor play equipment.
One of the parents taking part added: “It’s brilliant to be part of something that directly benefits the children. It’s scary for sure but there’s a real buzz among the group that we’re making a difference.”
