Brimscombe top the early season Hellenic League table after edging a five-goal thriller at the Meadow this evening, Tuesday.
Tim Bond’s side hit the ground running – Alex Gayner netting on 13 minutes. However, Chipping Sodbury bagged parity on 36 minutes through Keane Ashwood following a George Box assist.
On the cusp of the break it was Box who pounced to nose Sodbury ahead. However in first-half stoppage-time in-form striker Jay Griffiths, fresh from his opening day double, made it 2-2 for the Lilywhites.
Five minutes after the restart – Sodbury fluffed their lines from the penalty spot.
Brimscombe nosed ahead with 14 minutes left on the clock – Ben Saunders’ header from a Lewis Toop corner to make it back-to-back wins for the Lilywhites.
Malmesbury Victoria 2 Stonehouse Town 1
Stonehouse suffered back-to-back defeats as a late strike denied the Magpies the share of the spoils at Malmesbury.
A high-octane start saw Malmesbury take the lead on eight minutes – Josh Hughes with a sumptuous free-kick. However, the Magpies responded three minutes later – Antonio Pirelli netting for Adam Coyle’s side beyond former Forest Green and Shortwood United keeper Harry Pickering.
The Vics lost Zak Robinson to a straight red two minutes before the break.
Despite the numerical disadvantage Gio Wrona made it 2-1 to the Vics with nine minutes to go.
Stonehouse’s night was compounded with a late red card in added time.
Shortwood United 1 Clanfield 85 FC 1
Shortwood gained their first point of the new season at home to Clanfield 85 FC at Meadowbank.
Smarting from a 4-2 opening day defeat at Cheltenham Saracens, Marcus Foxwell’s side found themselves 1-0 down in the opening eight minutes following Charlie Knight’s sweet finish.
The Nailsworth outfit got back into the game on 29 minutes – Alfie Bradshaw following up his brace at the weekend, with a crucial leveller.
