Forest Green 4 Sutton United 0

Forest Green’s awe-inspiring start to the embryonic season continues to gather momentum under the leadership of new boss Robbie Savage.

Kyle McAllister’s first-half penalty and Jordan Moore-Taylor’s header helped put Sutton to the sword at the break. West Brom loanee Harry Whitwell made it three after the break and McAllister bagged his second to help catapult Rovers up to third in the early season table.

A scintillating Forest Green move started by Tre Pemberton saw Sutton defender Eduino Vaz upended Nick Haughton for Kyle McAllister to fizz home in the sixth-minute from the penalty spot.

Rovers were cooking – Jayden Clarke’s floating cross caused panic stations at the back for Sutton – with McAllister’s falling volley fizzing just over.

Full-throttle – Rovers stepped on the gas

Lewis Simpler found himself in the book forr tripping the fleet-footed Haughton who tested the gloves of Jack Sims from the resultant free-kick. From the corner Moore-Taylor made it 2-0 on 24 minutes. Issac Moore’s placed header allowed the Rovers’ captain to nod in despite Sims trying to paw the ball out from under his bar.

Exasperated Sutton boss Steve Morison saw yellow on the cusp of the break, much to the glee of the baying fans above him in the main stand.

McAllister had the bit between his teeth – drawing back his left-foot and fizzing a sumptuous strike from the edge of the box brought the best out of Sims.

Sutton started the second-half brightly enough, but the introduction of Jili J. Buyabu handed Rovers fresh impetus

McAllister’s howitzer from the edge of the box moved in the air to clip the underside of the bar with Sims beaten all ends up and the follow up diving header from Kairo Mitchell dropped wide.

Laurent Mendy spanked wide from distance as Rovers hunted a third. It arrived on 70 minutes – McAllister fed sub Harry Whitwell, the West Brom loanee burst into the box to plant a crisp finish beyond the exposed Sims.

Rovers made it 4-0 on 72 minutes – McAllister grabbing his second thanks to Buyabu’s pint-point cross.

In nine minutes of stoppage-time sub Christian Doidge swivelled in the box to watch Sims to touch the ball over the bar on another night of champagne football
