A test Emergency Alert will be sent to mobile phones across the UK at around 3pm on Sunday, 7 September.
The alert will be delivered to devices connected via 4G and 5G networks, causing them to vibrate and emit a loud siren-like sound for approximately 10 seconds, even if the device is silent. A clear message will appear on the screen stating that it’s only a test.
This is the second-ever national test of the Emergency Alerts system, which enables the government to quickly send life-saving messages during actual emergencies such as extreme weather.
The test supports the government’s Resilience Action Plan under the broader Plan for Change strategy, which includes investments in public safety, telecommunications resilience, and flood defence infrastructure.
