Tribute has been paid to former Stroud District Council Chair Dennis Andrewartha, who died on Wednesday, December 3rd. He was 78.
Dennis served on Stroud District Council for 15 years until 2014, was a Gloucestershire County Councillor for eight years until 2013, and a member of Cam Parish Council for 17 years until 2016 then brought his expertise back to the Parish Council in 2022 until he died.
Widely respected and well-liked among officers, and members of all parties he was elected as a Liberal Democrat member for Cam West in 2000, led the Liberal Democrat group from 2005, sat on Development Control Committee from 2000 and was elected Chair of SDC in 2013.
He also stood as the Liberal Democrat candidate in the 2010 General Election.
SDC Chair, Councillor Kate Kay said: “I am very sorry to hear of Dennis’s passing and my thoughts are with his family and friends. No doubt many of his former Liberal Democrat colleagues, and friends from across the political spectrum will want to send their condolences too.
“It’s clear that he was a very community-spirited person who put the needs of residents at the heart of his work as a councillor. He made a great impact in Cam, the Stroud District and the wider county.
“His passing will be marked at Full Council next Thursday, December 18th, where members will be welcome to pay their tributes.”
