A small street in Stroud is once again bringing Christmas magic to the community through a much-loved tradition that began right on their doorstep.
Spillmans in Rodborough is believed to be the first street in Stroud to create Christmas Advent Windows, is celebrating another year of creativity, connection, and community spirit.
Each December, residents transform their home windows into festive Advent displays, revealing a new window each day in the countdown to Christmas. What started as a simple idea has grown into a cherished annual tradition, drawing neighbours together and delighting passers-by.
Spillmans is home to a diverse mix of artists, musicians, families, and people from all walks of life. United by a strong sense of neighbourliness, residents support one another year-round and stay connected through two active WhatsApp groups — Spillmanians and Spillmans Swap Shop — which help foster everything from practical support to sharing resources and ideas.
“Many of us have never lived on a street quite like this,” said one resident. “There’s a real sense of looking out for one another, and the Advent Windows feel like a celebration of that — creativity, generosity, and togetherness.”
Now in 2025, the Advent Windows continue to evolve, showcasing handcrafted artwork, imaginative designs, and festive storytelling that reflect the personalities of the people who live there.
The displays have become a joyful highlight of the local Christmas season and a reminder of what can happen when community comes first.
