Dancer majestically welcomes the winter solstice

Ballet dancer Ruby Smith, 16, heralds the arrival of the winter solstice on Toots long barrow on Selsley Common.

Ruby, from Ballyhoo Dance in Chalford, wore wings illuminated by LED lights and lit up the night sky, with Stroud in the distance – even the train from Paddington to Stroud made an appearance as a yellow streak.

Winter solstice occurs on Sunday, December 21st at 3.03pm and marks the shortest day of the year, with sunrise at 8.13am and sunset at 3.59pm.
