Forest Green Rovers have beaten Bristol Rovers to the signing of prolific striker Ricardo Rees.
The Merthyr Town forward is expected to undergo a medical at Forest Green’s Candarim Training Ground today and could be available for Saturday’s National League clash against FC Halifax Town at the New Lawn.
Rovers’ top brass moved quickly to secure Rees’ signature after persuading the 26-year-old to choose the Gloucestershire club ahead of a number of other interested sides.
No player across England’s top six leagues has scored more league goals than Rees this season. The striker has netted an impressive 25 times in just 24 National League North appearances for Merthyr, adding a goal and an assist in Tuesday night’s win over Hereford.
Rees began his youth career at Cardiff City before joining Bristol City, where he was handed a two-year professional contract. Although he never made a senior appearance for the Robins, he featured regularly for their under-23 side and gained senior experience during loan spells at Bath City, Salisbury and Yate Town.
