Carlisle boss Mark Hughes delivers tongue-in-cheek dig at Forest Green fan base

Carlisle United manager Mark Hughes appeared to take a light-hearted dig at the attendance figures of this weekend’s opponents, Forest Green Rovers.

Speaking to BBC Radio Cumbria after Tuesday’s 3-2 victory over Scunthorpe United at Brunton Park, Hughes was asked about the upcoming clash with Rovers this evening. He replied: “Yeah, yeah – it could even be 2,000 or 3,000 next time. A really big crowd…”

The remark highlighted the stark contrast in fanbases between the two clubs. Forest Green Rovers’ highest league attendance this season was 2,802 for their 1-0 win against Hartlepool United in September, with an average home crowd of 2,025. By comparison, Carlisle United currently averages 7,235 spectators at home league games.
