Lewis sent off as Wood win at Moreton Rangers

Shortwood striker Lennon Lewis was sent off but Shortwood still managed to beat Moreton Rangers 3-1.

Lewis was red-carded just after the break, but Matt Blythe’s held on to record only their second Hellenic League Division One West win of the season following five defeats from the opening eight games.

Earlier, Wood started brightly – Josh Beadle had a shot cleared off the line and Lewis hit the bar.

Lewis opened the scoring on 47 minutes after exchanging passes with Lee Bowles. Shortwood doubled their lead moments later when Beadle found Soule. A minute later, Lewis received a straight red card for a lunging challenge. However, three minutes later the outstanding Fin Blythe made space down the left and his cross was smacked home by the waiting Soule for Shortwood’s third and his eighth goal from seven games.

Moreton reduced the arrears after 70 minutes. A corner was met at the near post by Mark Magee and the ball cannoned in off a defender on the line. Wood comfortably saw the remaining minutes out and picked up a thoroughly deserved second win.

Shortwood: Parsisson, Waddington, Fin Blythe, Byrnes (Harper – Emerson 88), Tryner, Porter, Hobbs (Phin 74), Beadle, Soule, Bowles (Fogg 66), Lewis

Star Man: Fin Blythe

Next up: Shortwood welcome Cirencester Development on Saturday, 3pm.
