More than 100 people lined the streets of Minchinhampton on Wednesday morning to watch a herd of Highland cattle make their traditional journey through the town for the first day of grazing on the common.
The annual tradition, known as Marking Day, takes place each year on May 13 on Rodborough and Minchinhampton Commons. It marks the moment livestock are officially released to graze freely across the commons.
In celebration, the National Trust and the Minchinhampton and Rodborough Commons Advisory Committee are holding a special celebration at the Old Lodge on Minchinhampton Common on Saturday, May 16 from 10.30aM -2pm with activities, walks and stalls celebrating nature and the commons.
The cows are brought from the overwintering fields and sheds and released back onto the commons to roam and graze.
The event saw crowds flock, which also included BBC new reader and Strictly star Kate Silverton.
The cattle made their way along Minchinhampton High Street and turned left at the war memorial and past the Church to gleefully make their way to the common for some welcome grazing.
