From bowls to croquet: new club revives Stratford Park green

The newly launched Stroud Croquet Club has opened at Stratford Park Leisure Centre in Stratford Park, on the lawn previously home to Stroud Bowls Club.

Last summer, Stroud Bowls Club — a long-standing fixture of the South Cotswold League and a cherished part of the sporting community — closed its doors due to falling membership and financial pressures.

The bowls club had proudly played on the green at Stratford Park for 88 years. However, Stroud Croquet Club has now filled the void, bringing a new sporting opportunity to the town.

The club has already received enthusiastic feedback from new members and visitors: “Just wonderful to have croquet in Stroud again.”

Another said: “A game I can play on an equal footing with my wife and teenagers.”

“A sport I can play with Grandpa.”

The club is open to everyone and currently meets: Tuesdays: 2pm – 5pm, Thursdays: 5pm – 8pm

A weekend session will also be added soon.

All equipment is provided. Players simply need to wear flat-soled shoes.
