Children at Chalford Primary School celebrated the 100th birthday of David Attenborough by hosting a special ‘bring your teddy bear to school’ day to raise funds for Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust (GWT).
The idea was dreamed up by Ben, a year two pupil aged seven, who wanted to help nature in honour of his hero, Sir David Attenborough.
Pupils and staff embraced the challenge, bringing their favourite teddy bears into school while raising funds for Mission Wild – GWT’s biggest fundraising appeal in their history to support wildlife and nature recovery across Gloucestershire.
From Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust said “we are incredibly grateful to Chalford Primary School for their wonderful support of Mission Wild. One of the key aims of the appeal is to help connect more children with nature and inspire the next generation to care for the natural world. It’s fantastic to see young people already leading the way.”
Headteacher, David Poad, said: “Our children care so much about the world around them, and I was delighted when Ben told me about his idea. Our school community have supported his idea, and we are pleased to be able to do something to support our local wildlife.”
Mission Wild is Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust’s most ambitious call to action yet, aiming to raise £3 million over 3 years to accelerate nature’s recovery through three key areas: transforming Gloucestershire’s landscapes, connecting more people with nature and bringing nature back.
