A murder investigation has been launched after a suspected stabbing in Gloucester last night (Thursday 2 July).
Police were called at around 9pm with a report that someone had been injured within a property on Alney Terrace.
Emergency services attended and a man, aged in his 80s, was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital with suspected stab wounds. He sadly died from his injuries a short time later.
The man’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.
A man, aged in his 50s and from Gloucester has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the incident. He remains in police custody at this time.
The Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT) is in the early stages of an investigation and there will continue to be a police presence in the area throughout today while enquiries take place at the scene.
Chief Superintendent Rebecca Love said: ” We understand the concern this incident will have caused within the local community.
“We want to reassure everyone that we believe there is no wider threat to the public.
“Officers will be carrying out proactive reassurance patrols in the area today and continuing their house-to-house enquiries.
“We’re asking anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area before or after the assault to contact us as soon as possible.”
