Forest Green Rovers captain Laurent Mendy is set to complete a move to Scottish Premiership side Heart of Midlothian.
According to The Hearts Standard, the clubs have agreed a deal worth an initial £500,000, with further performance-related add-ons. However, the overall package is understood to be capable of rising to close to £1 million, which would represent a club-record transfer fee received by Forest Green Rovers.
The move comes after Hearts failed with an approach for the midfielder during the January transfer window. The Scottish club submitted an offer which was rejected by Forest Green, but they have now returned with an improved bid that has reportedly been accepted.
The transfer caps an extraordinary rise for the 29-year-old.
Mendy first linked up with Robbie Savage at Macclesfield in 2021 when the club were playing in the North West Counties League Premier Division. He became a key figure in the Silkmen’s rapid climb through the non-league ranks before following Savage to Forest Green last summer.
His move to The New Lawn saw him sign the first professional contract of his career, leaving behind part-time football and a job as a pot washer to become a full-time professional.
Should the move be completed, it will mark another remarkable chapter in Mendy’s football journey, taking him from the ninth tier of English football just five years ago to the Scottish Premiership and the prospect of competing in European football.
