Smiles, tears and top grades: Stroud High students celebrate GCSE success

Students, staff and families at Stroud High School were celebrating this morning as Year 11 students collected an impressive set of GCSE results. This year, 22 per cent of all grades awarded were Grade 9, the highest grade available at GCSE. More than half of all grades (51 per cent) were awarded at Grades 9-8, while almost three-quarters (74 per cent) were awarded at Grades 9-7.

The school was also particularly pleased by the number of students achieving consistently high grades across a broad range of subjects:

  • 62.3 per cent of students achieved seven or more Grades 9-7
  • 51.3 per cent achieved eight or more Grades 9-7
  • 33.8 per cent achieved nine or more Grades 9-7

Mark McShane, Headteacher, said: “Results day is always one of the highlights of the school year. The Sports Hall was full of smiles, hugs, happy tears and plenty of relieved students and parents, and it was a real privilege to share those moments with them.”

“We must never underestimate that these results reflect years of hard work. It is no mean feat to perform so highly across the full range of GCSE subjects. The headline figures are excellent, but what matters most are the stories behind them. Every student has their own journey, and today we celebrate those who have exceeded expectations, reached personal goals and overcome challenges along the way.”

“I’d also like to thank our staff and our parents and carers for the support, encouragement and care they have given throughout the last five years. Today’s successes are the result of a genuine partnership. Above all, though, this day belongs to our students. They are quite rightly the stars of the show, and we couldn’t be prouder of everything they have achieved.”

Kim Pullon, Year Leader, said: “I’ve had the privilege of working with this year group throughout their entire journey at Stroud High School, and I couldn’t be prouder of them. Every student has their own story and today has been full of moments where years of hard work, determination and resilience have paid off.”

“The results are fantastic, but what I’ll remember most are the smiles, the relief and the excitement in the Sports Hall this morning. They are a wonderful group of young people, and it has been a joy to watch them grow in confidence over the last five years. I can’t wait to see what they go on to achieve next.”

The school is delighted that so many Year 11 students will be returning to continue their studies at Stroud High Sixth Form in September. For all members of the year group, whatever their next step may be, Stroud High School wishes them every success and happiness for the future.
