Today’s Hellenic League Division One West fixture between Brimscombe & Thrupp and Shortwood United was abandoned following a leg injury to Shortwood player Dan Carter.
Carter suffered the injury during the first half and was taken to hospital.
Shortwood were leading at the time, with Asamoah Boateng Afriyie having put the visitors ahead.
A Shortwood spokesperson said: “The game at Brimscombe has been abandoned due to a serious leg injury to Dan Carter, who is on his way to hospital.
“All at the Wood wish him well.”
Brimscombe & Thrupp also sent their best wishes to Carter.
A club spokesperson said: “Everyone at Brimscombe & Thrupp FC sends our very best wishes to Dan Carter following the serious injury sustained in today’s game.
“Football takes a back seat at times like this. We hope Dan is comfortable and wish him a full and speedy recovery.
“Our thoughts are with Dan, his family, teammates and everyone at Shortwood United.”
