Stroud District Council Labour Group has announced that Cllr Katy Hofmann (Labour, Rodborough) has resigned from the council with immediate effect due to ill health.
Her resignation triggers a by-election in the Rodborough ward, as well as an election to appoint a new leader of the Labour Group.
Cllr Hofmann’s leadership and commitment as a hardworking ward councillor have been praised by fellow councillors and residents.
Cllr Bob Hughes (Labour, Dursley), who will step into the role of Labour Group leader pending a formal election, said: “We were all shocked to hear Katy’s news. We support her decision, thank her for her contribution and wish her a speedy recovery.
“Katy is an outstanding leader who has brought a perfect blend of skills to the role. Collaborative, balanced and warm, but firm and articulate enough to win the argument.”
Rodborough will continue to be represented by Labour councillor Nigel Prenter.
