Rodborough Old Boys are enjoying a remarkable resurgence, with the club expanding across its senior set-up after a season of success on and off the pitch.
Last season proved a turning point for the Rodborough club, with the first team lifting the County Cup, finishing runners-up in Stroud Division Three South and securing promotion through the play-offs.
They also reached the quarter-finals of the Bill Bick Cup as the club began to rebuild following a difficult period.
The club had previously taken the decision to withdraw its first team from the NSL and, with what had been the Reserve team becoming the club’s sole senior side, Rodborough Old Boys were down to just one men’s team.
While reducing from three sides to one was a difficult decision, it has ultimately provided the foundations for a remarkable rebuild.
Now the club is going from strength to strength.
A Reserves team has been relaunched and will begin its season this weekend, while Rodborough will also field its first-ever U18 side in the Midweek Floodlit League.
The new U18 team strengthens the pathway from the club’s large youth set-up into men’s football, giving young players the opportunity to continue their development within the club.
And there is even more to celebrate, with the club forming its first-ever women’s team, further expanding the opportunities available at Rodborough Old Boys.
The progress has also been supported by a number of local businesses.
Winstones has come on board as the new first-team first-kit sponsor, providing a major boost to the club.
With The Prince Albert already providing continued sponsorship and support, the club says building relationships with local Rodborough businesses has been an important part of its development.
Rodborough Old Boys are also delighted that Firmacore will continue as the club’s training and pre-match kit sponsor, with Glenn maintaining his connection with the club as a former player.
The club’s first-team coach said the journey from a difficult period to the current position showed what could be achieved by taking a step back and rebuilding properly.
Going from three senior sides to one was a tough period for the club, but the decision has now proved to be exactly what was needed to create a stronger foundation for the future.
With a successful first team, a newly relaunched Reserves, the club’s first U18 side, and a new women’s team, Rodborough Old Boys are now looking towards an exciting new chapter.
And after last season’s County Cup triumph and promotion, there is plenty of optimism that the club’s revival is only just beginning.
