The Old Nelson in Stroud is set to close on Monday, September 7, as its former owner Whitbread shuts down its remaining Brewers Fayre sites.

The move comes as Whitbread shifts its focus towards its Premier Inn hotel business and brings the Brewers Fayre brand to an end.

However, the closure is not expected to be the end of the road for the popular venue.

The Old Nelson is understood to have been acquired by Queensway Inns, which has purchased 53 former Brewers Fayre locations from Whitbread.

The Stroud pub is therefore expected to reopen under new ownership, although further details about the future of the venue have yet to be confirmed.
