Police are appealing for a dog owner to come forward after an attack in Woodchester Park left another dog with puncture wounds and its owner needing surgery for a serious hand injury.
The incident happened at around 3pm on Wednesday, September 9 on a footpath near the first lake.
Police say the dog had been playing fetch with its owner, who was throwing a stick, when it ran up the bank and attacked another dog — a Labradoodle.
The Labradoodle’s owner tried to intervene but was bitten on the hand, suffering serious injuries which required surgery.
The attack is reported to have continued for some time. In an attempt to bring the dog under control, the Labradoodle’s owner handed its lead to the other owner.
However, due to the fear and shock of what had happened, she left the scene afterwards without obtaining the other owner’s details.
Her dog was taken to a vet and suffered puncture wounds.
Police are now appealing directly to the owner of the attacking dog to come forward and are also asking anyone who witnessed the incident to get in touch.
The dog has been described as: A fit and athletic crossbreed, probably young – long-legged with short, brindle-coloured hair and a straight tail, possibly a broad head and pointed nose and it may have been called Benjy.
Its owner was described as a woman aged in her late 30s or early 40s, with long black hair and a slim build. She was possibly of mixed heritage and was using a slip lead which goes over a dog’s nose and neck.
