An existing industrial unit at Kingfisher Business Park could be transformed into a new sports and health facility.
Plans have been submitted to Stroud District Council to convert a unit at Kingfisher Business Park, London Road, Thrupp, into an indoor padel club, golf studio and health hub.
The full planning application, submitted by architects Coombes Everitt on behalf of Howard Tenens Ltd, proposes changing the use of Unit A, Tudor Rose, from an industrial unit to a mix of recreational, health and leisure uses.
The proposal includes:
- Indoor padel courts
- An indoor golf studio
- A health hub
- Associated changes to the building’s elevations
- Minor demolition works
- Improvements to parking and access
The application, reference S.26/1512/FUL, was received by Stroud District Council on September 14, 2026.
According to the supporting Design and Access Statement, the proposal is intended to respond to the growing popularity of padel across the UK.
The statement says padel is experiencing “significant growth” nationally, with increasing participation and investment in new courts and facilities.
It adds that the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), which governs padel in the UK, has identified the sport as a key development area as part of its strategy to increase participation in racket sports.
The proposed development would see the existing industrial unit accessed via Hope Mill Lane, just off the A419 London Road, adapted for the new uses.
The applicants say the submitted Design and Access Statement sets out the proposed use, amount, layout, scale, appearance, access and sustainability of the development.
A site notice has been displayed at the site.
The application is also identified as affecting a public right of way and the setting of a listed building or the character or appearance of a conservation area.
Members of the public have until 8 October 2026 to comment on the proposal.
