An abnormal load is currently being transported from Damien Hirst’s headquarters in Dudbridge to Dover this morning, Wednesday.
A large police escort left Hirst’s Science HQ on Dudbridge Road this morning before travelling along the A46, A419 and M5. The escort will then continue its journey to Dover.
Hirst’s factory has is a facility for preserving dead animals and producing sculptures en-mass, although much of the bronze work is cast at Pangolin in nearby Brimscombe.
Due to the size of the load, drivers are advised to allow extra time for their journeys or find alternative routes.
An eyewitness said: “There were about four police motorcycles, two or three police cars and a couple of convoy vehicles. The convoy left Dudbridge Road at about 10.30 am. About an hour before the police were seen measuring distances between traffic lights to make sure that the load could fit through. When it eventually set on its journey it was accompanied by somebody walking in front of it seeing it through the gaps between the traffic lights.
“It appeared to be a large sculpture but it was not easy to figure out exactly what it works it was all wrapped in black, but it was definitely some kind of sculpture.”
