Wales & West Utilities is starting work to upgrade gas pipes in the Ebley Road area of Stonehouse.
The work, which started on Monday, is essential to keep the gas flowing safely to heat and power local homes and businesses. Barring any engineering difficulties it will finish at the beginning of August.
The gas emergency and pipeline service has worked with Gloucestershire County Council to plan these works and it has been agreed that traffic management, including traffic lights, and road and lane closures, will be in place as the works progress. This initially involves a road closure on: Ebley Road between the Horsetrough Roundabout and Ryeford Road North (28 April – 23 May).
Wales & West Utilities Mick Gallavin is managing this work and said: “This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport hydrogen and biomethane, so we can all play our part in a green future.

“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across the wider area. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.
“We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future. We’ll have a team of gas engineers on site throughout the project to make sure our work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum.”

John Bloxsom, County Council Labour group leader told Stroud Times: “Ebley Road is to be closed between the Horsethrough roundabout and Ryeford Road, North.
“They say (Wales & West Utilities) that they hope to revert from a full road closure to using temporary traffic lights after a couple of weeks depending on progress made.
“Stagecoach 64 services will be diverted along the Ebley bypass so the stops between Cainscross roundabout and Horsethrough roundabout will be suspended. This will be the diversion route for all traffic.
“All properties on Ebley Road will remain accessible if approached from the Cainscross roundabout. If at some stage Wales and West can revert to using two-way traffic lights then access will be possible from the Stonehouse end as well.”
