Appeal for witnesses to a suspected arson at former pub in Stroud

Police are appealing for witnesses to a suspected arson that took place at a former pub in Stroud earlier this week.

Police were contacted on Monday evening (3 January) with a report that two unknown males had been seen running from the disused Market Tavern – formerly the Pelican.

The incident took place around 9.15pm and it is understood that two people had entered the building before starting a fire in one of the rooms.

A member of the public saw the pair run in the direction of Cornhill and described them as both having dark hair, one wearing a black jacket and the other having a black jacket on. The incident is currently being treated as arson and investigating officers are conducting CCTV enquiries.
