Appeal launched to fund hospice care in the home

Longfield Community Hospice is calling on supporters to help “fund the next knock” as it launches a new fundraising appeal: We care because you care.

Every day, Longfield’s nurses and healthcare assistants travel across Gloucestershire, to the homes of families caring for a loved one who is dying. The expert care they provide is urgently needed. But it’s not guaranteed.

Longfield’s end-of-life care is only partially funded by the government. Financial support for the charity’s Hospice at Home service comes from a mix of statutory funding and grants – with the lion’s share coming from community donations. Those donations are crucial. They provide Longfield with the flexibility to respond when a family needs them – often long before statutory paperwork has been completed or approved.

Sarah Mimmack, Director of Care at Longfield, explains: “When someone is approaching the end of their life, their need for care doesn’t always fit neatly around the time that funding is agreed. Sometimes our nurses make an SOS visit because a family needs us now, long before we know whether funding will be available.

“In those moments, your donations allow us to make the decision to knock on that door and provide care at a critical moment for a patient and their family. Please support our new campaign and help Longfield be there for every family who needs us.”
