Bands welcome to play at historical outdoor music venue

Stroud District Council is looking for bands to complete the outdoor performances line-up this summer at Stratford Park in Stroud.

Already signed up for the Victorian bandstand are Stroud Area Wind Orchestra, Adelphi Dance Band and The Stroud Red Band. The Sunday afternoon events aim to be relaxed where families can gather on the lawns and enjoy time together.

The free-of-charge bandstand afternoons are open to all and everyone is welcome to bring a picnic and a blanket and take in the surroundings of Stratford Park.

Stratford Park is a 56-acre site with a superb offering of recreational activities – an arboretum with more than 800 trees, Stratford Park Leisure Centre, a miniature railway, a children’s play area and a bowling green.

Councillor Beki Aldam, Chair of SDC’s Community Services and Licensing Committee said: “After an extended break during the Coronavirus pandemic, Stratford Park is looking forward to reintroducing bands back to the bandstand again.

“We’re looking for a variety of music for people to listen to on a Sunday afternoon. The park can supply electricity and chairs but bands are welcome to bring their own generator, microphones and amplifiers if they own these. Ideally the music will be calm and bring a feelgood atmosphere to the event.”

Deputy Chair Trevor Hall added: “The grounds at Stratford Park offer a superb, natural setting for bands to amplify their talent.”

The current bands that are playing this summer are listed below, with any Sunday dates not included being available for applications. The last Sunday the bandstand event will be running is 24 September. Bands will be paid a small donation.
