Head to Lansdown Hall this Friday for a magical evening of music with the Dave Ayre Baroque Band, writes Jennifer Greenshields.
It’s been some months since the last sellout Baroque Night, so we are really delighted that Dave and his band of wonderful musicians are returning to perform on Friday 9 December at Lansdown Hall, Stroud.
This time it’s going to be ‘all about that bass’. Come and hear some great 400-year-old music featuring some of the best basslines ever written!
Did you know that many of the loveliest pieces of Baroque music feature a ‘ground bass’ – a recurring melody in the bass part, providing a structure around which the composers lay different musical textures and ideas?

That’s the technical bit for those of you who study music– for the rest of us, we’ll just enjoy listening to the sound produced and, as always, to join in with the singing.
Always a fantastic atmosphere, with music that ranges from beautiful to exciting and sometimes raucous! Last few tickets remaining. £16 adults and free for under 18s Available here or from https://lansdownhall.org/events/baroque-night-dave-ayre/
