Berkeley youngsters lap up fundraising opportunity

Youngsters from a specialist school in Berkeley put their best foot forward to help raise money for charity.

The Aurora Severnside School pupils, aged between 11 and 16, completed laps around an adjacent sports field as part of Cancer Research UK’s Race For Life.

The school offers academic and therapeutic provision for students aged 11-16 with social, emotional and mental health needs, autism and additional learning needs.

To help promote their efforts, pupils went around the town with posters to encourage donations. Teaching Assistant and event organiser Evie Lindsey said she was delighted that so many pupils chose to take part in the fundraiser.

She said: “Not only did we raise money for a very worthwhile charity but it provided valuable learning opportunities. One student, who has a passion for baking, used his cookery lesson to prepare cakes and snacks for the hungry runners upon their return. Overall, it was a wonderful effort by all those who took part.”
