Biblical downpour forces festive closure of popular Stroud pub

A Stroud pub has been forced to close at one of the busiest times of the year after extreme wet weather caused severe flooding.

The Ship Inn at Brimscombe closed its doors on Friday after rising water levels flooded the beer cellar, leaving the business without hot water and power to much of its essential equipment.

Landlord Wesley Birch said the scale of the damage was significant.
“The heavy rain has forced the water levels up so high that it’s flooded our cellar and caused considerable damage,” he said.

Mr Birch said the situation would be reassessed this morning, Saturday, and is hoping to welcome customers back later this afternoon.

“We’ll reassess the situation this morning and hope to reopen this afternoon – we are so truly sorry from the bottom of our sad and soggy hearts.”
