It’s been quite a ride for bistro owners Fred Hulls and Jeremy McGovern since they took the reins at Good Food Kitchen & Bar almost 18 months ago.
They started with a bang and things haven’t slowed since, earning them hundreds of five star guest reviews, with the latest accolade being shortlisted in the national Good Food Awards.

Despite the similar name, there is no affiliation between the restaurant and the national awards themselves, which have been running for almost 25 years. Voting for the 2025/26 awards closes on 24th August, 2025, and winners are announced at a ceremony which is usually hosted in November.

“We were completely gobsmacked to be shortlisted,” said Fred. “Our food has had some brilliant recognition over the past year or so, and this really takes it to the next level. Wotton-under-Edge is full of brilliant foodie producers and establishments, and, whether we win or not, we hope this shines a light on what this brilliant town has to offer. If you can spare a minute to vote for us, it could make a huge impact.”

Fred and Jeremy have been huge advocates for Wotton and its community, donating food to The Keepers Community Hub, providing a fun and inclusive space for Wotton Pride, offering the venue for buskers at Wotton Blues Festival and creating the Long Street Summer Social, a community event taking place on 30th August.
“We’re focused on giving back,” added Jeremy. “For a decade, Fred and I ran a charity baseball league for special needs kids in Los Angeles. That charity is now part of The Dodgers Dreamfield Programme, with our volunteers now being promoted to paid positions, and we couldn’t be prouder. While we’ve used our spare time to do what really drives us, giving back to the community, it’s wonderful that the food our bistro produces is also getting the recognition it deserves.”
