Forest Green Rovers boss Robbie Savage is emerging as a potential contender for the vacant Peterborough United job following the sacking of Luke Williams.
Peterborough, who are currently 23rd in League One, dismissed Williams less than two hours after Saturday’s defeat to Doncaster Rovers – and chairman Darragh MacAnthony is a long-standing admirer of Savage.
Savage will be focused on Forest Green’s trip to Sutton United this afternoon, but his name has emerged as one being linked with the vacancy at London Road.
Savage joined Forest Green from Macclesfield in 2025 on a four year deal and made an immediate impact, guiding Rovers into the National League play-offs during his first season in charge.
His side narrowly missed out on promotion after a extra-time defeat to Boreham Wood in the play-off eliminator, but Savage has continued to develop a team built around an attacking, front-foot style of football.
He has also been credited with helping Forest Green identify talent from a variety of sources – from Premier League youngsters arriving on loan to players emerging from the lower levels of the game.
That approach has already helped Rovers generate significant transfer value.
Laurent Mendy, who emerged as one of Forest Green’s standout talents, left the club this season to join Scottish Premiership side Hearts in a deal worth around £1 million.
Savage has also overseen the development of a number of young players during his time at the New Lawn, while helping Rovers compete towards the top end of the National League and cutting the budget.
He has also forged a strong working relationship with owner Dale Vince, vice-chairman Asif Rehmanwala and sporting director Mark Bowen
Peterborough’s decision to dismiss Williams has now opened up a vacancy at one of League One’s most ambitious clubs.
