Call out to artists: does your project need a grant?

Since it first started in 1946, Stroud Arts Festival has been supporting artists and bringing the best of the arts to Stroud, writes Jennifer Greenshields.

As part of this support the charity is currently offering small grants of up to £500 to arts projects.

Musician and educationalist Dave Ayre, has been a past recipient of this charitable fund and knows just how valuable this support can be.

Dave said: “A lot of people don’t realise how much this charity has put into the Arts in this area – about £300,000  in the last 25 years alone – thanks to a legacy from local couple Margaret and Netlam Bigg who established the Festival nearly 80 years ago.

“I’ve been able to work with young people on projects such as creating the Mighty John St Ska Orchestra, and developing the very popular song writing/performing workshops Bandit over the years, which exist now thanks to the help they received from Stroud Arts Festival at the start.”

Now, as Artistic Director of Stroud Arts Festival, Dave encourages other artists to get help for their projects which can sit alongside the fantastic Festival programme he and his team bring to our venues.  This year the Festival programme takes inspiration from  the relationship between nature and the arts, in particular land and water.

Dave added: “If you have a project idea and you need help to make it happen take a look at our Grants page for details and read our Terms and Conditions to see if you qualify for our support. The application form is straightforward and the deadline for this round is the 28th February.”
