Undertaking a squad rebuild, new Shortwood United boss Dan Gillespie is ‘thrilled’ to have retained the services of captain Joe Tryner.
Loyalty personified, star defender Tryner has put pen to paper to commit himself to a fourth season at Meadowbank.
Gillespie said: “I’m thrilled to keep Joe Tryner. Everyone I spoke to said I needed to keep him at the club.
“When I was appointed, I messaged him to tell him my intentions and that I wanted him to stay and captain the club. I was aware there was a few clubs looking to try and sign him, so to get it done last night was a big relief.”
With a raft of players leaving the club following the departure of former boss Ian Soule, Gillespie has been pleased with his new arrivals as he assembles a squad for the new Hellenic League Division One West season: “The recruitment has been excellent,” said Gillespie. “Every player we have committed have trained well, but their attitude has been excellent and I look for that more than anything.”
Upbeat Gillespie has retained the services of key midfielder Finlay Byrnes and hopes to secure Keegan Bowes for a second season. The former Newent boss has brought in fresh faces, including Brad Loveridge, Jordan Molyneux, Ollie Price, Alex Gayner, Ben Sluman and Essa Sabally.
There’s a couple on the radar that we still want to complete, if we land those signatures, we would have assembled a very good group of players.
