Charlie Cooper stars in new BBC comedy filmed at Woodchester Park Mansion and The Rose & Crown

Stroud actor Charlie Cooper stars in The Reluctant Vampire, a brand-new BBC comedy series which was partly filmed at the historic Woodchester Park Mansion and The Rose & Crown at Nympsfield.

Best known for his role as Lee ‘Kurtan’ Mucklowe in the acclaimed BBC comedy This Country, Cooper joins an ensemble cast for the six-part series, which brings a quirky vampire tale to the screen.

The series follows Susan, a woman who becomes convinced that vampires are living in her village and sets out to rid the community of them.

Cooper plays John, adding another distinctive comic performance to a cast that combines established names with some of Britain’s best-loved comedy talent.

For audiences in the Stroud district, the series also offers a chance to spot a familiar local landmark, with filming taking place at the atmospheric Woodchester Park Mansion.

The historic mansion, hidden within the National Trust’s Woodchester Park estate, provides a suitably gothic setting for the supernatural comedy.

The Reluctant Vampire is based on Eric Morecambe’s 1982 novel of the same name and has been adapted for television as a warm, offbeat comedy about village life, relationships and the supernatural.

For Cooper, the series marks another major BBC role following the success of This Country, which he co-created and starred in alongside his sister Daisy May Cooper.

The Reluctant Vampire premieres on BBC One at 6.40pm on Sunday, October 4.
