Cheers to that – Carpenters Arms offer free drinks

The Carpenters Arms will give NHS and school staff free drinks to say thank you for their work during coronavirus.

Publican Samantha Mckie, wants to show her appreciation to the county’s key workers and to celebrate togetherness as lockdown begins to lift and the pub garden reopens to groups of six from April 12th.

Samantha said: “After a year that could have ruined a new business in the pub trade, we are extremely thankful to be in a stronger position than ever thanks to the amazing ongoing support and encouragement from the local community and we cannot wait to celebrate reopening the pub garden on April 12th by offering  1000 free drinks to our amazing NHS workers and school staff to enjoy in our newly improved beer garden with its incredible views. It’s the least we can do.

“It’s been a tough year for everyone, but it has really given us the opportunity to get to know our local community in a way, that when you are running a busy pub, might have taken years to achieve. We have  worked exceptionally hard and our doors have remained open in some capacity throughout – it’s been an  absolute privilege to help people through each lockdown in our own small way.”

It wasn’t part of the original business plan, but the past 12 months have seen The Carpenters Arms offering a  valued village shop, food deliveries to shielding customers, carpark pop-ups, takeaway drinks, a series of outdoor family fundraising trails, and more.

Two brand new Carps Easter Trails are launching on Monday 5th April, running until Friday 18th April. £2 per child will get you two maps and once you’ve spotted the eggs on route you can return to get a treat. Free parking, icecreams, hot drinks, cakes and takeaway food available will be available from the 5th, with the beer garden opening from Monday 12th April. All proceeds from the trail will go to Randwick and Foxmoor School.

The Carpenters Arms is located in the pretty Stroud village of Westrip, near Randwick, and is popular with locals, families, and walkers exploring the Cotswold Way. Samantha took over in November 2019 following a  community campaign to save the building from development.
